Buttermilk Waffles

Yield:  4 waffles# of Servings: 4Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

1 cup (4.65 oz / 132 g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt

1 egg, room temperature
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
5 tbl (2.5 oz / 71 g) butter, melted, but not hot

Maple syrup, as needed

Fresh berries, as needed

Special tools and equipment needed:

  • 1 Belgian waffle iron

Pre-recipe preparations:

  • Bring egg and buttermilk to room temperature
  • Plug in waffle iron

Directions

  1. In medium mixing bowl, stir the dry ingredients together.
  2. Beat egg in small mixing bowl. Add buttermilk and melted butter and whisk together.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture. Pour in the buttermilk mixture and mix until just combined. The mixture will be thick.
  4. If waffle iron hasn’t been used in a while, spray lightly with a regular release spray.
  5. Scoop ½ cup of batter into each waffle grid. Close the top and cook until no more steam is emitted from the waffle iron, and a quick peak reveals well-browned waffles, about 6 to 7 minutes.
  6. Remove and continue cooking remaining batter.
  7. Serve with warm maple syrup and fresh berries.
